JERSEY CITY, NJ — Hudson County Executive Craig Guy today announced the opening of the schools and school district application period for the Sports in Education Program, an initiative designed to expand access to high-quality sports instruction and physical education opportunities for students across the county. Applications are being accepted until May 24, 2026.

“Our Sports in Education program is about more than athletics. It’s about building confidence, teamwork, and lifelong skills in our students,” said County Executive Guy. “The strong participation we saw at our recent Combine shows the demand for this kind of programming, and we are excited to expand these opportunities even further across Hudson County.”

The Sports in Education Program provides funding to sports organizations that partner with schools to deliver integrated, curriculum-aligned instruction for students in grades 3-12. Coaches work alongside educators to enhance both physical development and academic learning while embedding sports-based education into the standard curriculum. The program promotes teamwork, confidence, fundamental motor skills, healthy competition, problem-solving, and overall physical wellness, while increasing students’ exposure to and understanding of sports.

Hudson County recently hosted a Sports in Education Combine that brought together 26 schools and more than 500 students, highlighting the continued growth and impact of the program across the County.

All public schools, charter schools, Catholic schools, and school districts in Hudson County are eligible to apply either individually or on behalf of multiple schools within a district. Applicants are encouraged to review the full guidelines before applying. Applications are available here.
