Hudson County Executive Craig Guy Statement on Frank Alonso Indictment

HUDSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG GUY STATEMENT
ON FRANK ALONSO INDICTMENT

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Hudson County Executive Craig Guy released the following statement on the indictment of Frank Alonso:

“Corrupt public officials must be held accountable for their bad actions. In late December my Administration initiated a proactive investigation, led by County Counsel Alberico De Pierro, into irregularities in the Office of Weights and Measures, an agency under the leadership of then-Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari. We immediately conducted an internal audit and gathered evidence from state and municipal agencies. We referred the matter and handed over these materials to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in swift fashion. I suspended Frank Alonso without pay and terminated his employment soon after. I applaud the Prosecutor’s Office for carrying out this investigation and I pledge to assist in any way possible.

I remain fully committed to leading an open and honest county government where those who betray the public’s trust are held accountable. Since moving the Office of Weights and Measures under the Law Department to provide better oversight of the agency, I am proud to say we have had no issues with the unit since the transition. And this week I announced plans to establish the first-ever Office of Inspector General in Hudson County to serve as an internal watchdog for county government. As County Executive, I will continue prioritizing an honest, transparent government that residents can trust in.”
