Commissioner Yraida Aponte-Lipski has always had a passion for\u00a0 public service, particularly public health. From an early age, while living in the Dominican Republic, she witnessed families and her community suffer from inadequate healthcare. She decided to do something about it: she went to dental school, but it became too financially burdensome for her family. Yraida came to the United States seeking educational and economic opportunities, working during the day and attending school at night. Yraida\u2019s hard work paid off. She earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in dental hygiene, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and a Master of Public Health degree. She puts this knowledge to work every day for the good of our community.<\/p>\n
Commissioner Aponte-Lipski was a former professor and clinical instructor at Eastern International College in Jersey City’s Journal Square. She has received numerous awards for the work to promote health care in our community. Yraida is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the Hispanic Dental Association, and the New Jersey Dental Hygiene Association,\u00a0 where she sits on a committee that advocates for improved dental services for seniors and children.<\/p>\n
As a County Commissioner, Yraida Aponte-Lipski is a representative to the Hudson County Planning Board. She also serves on the following committees: Education, Environmental, Health and Human Services, Task Force for Homelessness, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, and Women and Minority Affairs.<\/p>\n
Married to former Jersey City Councilman Steve Lipski for over 30 years, Yraida and Steve have resided in County Commissioner District 4 for over 30 years. She was a former Democratic\u00a0 Committeewoman in Ward C, District 23, and serves as the Sergeant-At-Arms for the Jersey City Democratic Organization. She is a member of the Friends of Liberty State Park,\u00a0 the Serra Club, and the Loyal Order of the Moose. She was awarded the \u201cService Above Self\u201d Community Service Award from the Rotary Club of Jersey City, and has been honored by the Jersey City St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade Committee, the Jersey City Dominican Parade Committee, the Jersey City Caribbean-American Carnival and Parade Community, Sarah’s Daughters, and the Mo’Hair Foundation.\u00a0 She is affiliated with the Nonprofit Community 1st Hudson and was also honored by them.<\/p>\n
