Jersey City-The Hudson County Board of Freeholders urge New Jersey Attorney Mr. Gurbir Grewal to investigate all long-term care facilities in the state that have experienced a disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases and urges the New Jersey Department of Health to consistently enforce all critical safety measures and protocols at all long-term care facilities in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
COVID-19 has affected long-term care facilities in New Jersey especially hard, with 358 of the state\u2019s 375 facilities reporting at least one case. Over 6,000 cases of the coronavirus have been reported at facilities across the State, and 3,518 deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded as of April 15 at the State\u2019s long-term care facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many long-term care facilities in the State have dangerously low staffing levels and insufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). There has also been inadequate testing of residents at long-term care facilities, rendering mitigation of COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care facilities extremely difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Alaris Health long-term care facility at Hamilton Park in Jersey City is one of the long-term care facilities in Hudson County that has recently had a high number of COVID-19 positives; there have also been news reports of healthcare staff at the Hamilton Park facility alleging administrators withheld PPE, housed sick patients with healthy ones, and pressured staff to work even when they were sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chairman Anthony Vainieri and the Board of Chosen Freeholders Board urges New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal to investigate all long-term care facilities in the State that have experienced a disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases or COVID-19 related deaths during the pandemic, including all long-term care facilities in Hudson County. Also, the Board urges the New Jersey Department of Health to consistently enforce all critical safety measures and protocols at all long-term care facilities in the State, including facilities in the County of Hudson, and ensure that healthcare staffs at those facilities have all necessary PPE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
