About the Division on Aging Services

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Division on Aging Services is to promote independence, dignity and choice by assisting and advocating for Hudson County seniors (60+) and their caregivers through the development and delivery of home and community-based support services and programs. The Office on Aging is a critical link between seniors and the wide range of programs that provide important services to Hudson County’s senior community. The Office maintains a service network capable of meeting the health, economic and social needs of older adults in Hudson County, with a particular emphasis on serving those seniors of greatest social and economic need, including low-income minority older individuals with limited English proficiency.

Who We Are:

Hudson County Division on Aging Services was designated by the State of New Jersey as an Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and has been serving Hudson County seniors since 1976. Through the Office on Aging, all residents of Hudson County, 60 years of age and older and their caregivers, are eligible for services. However, emphasis is placed on the Older American’s Act provision to serve those seniors of greatest social and economic need, including underserved minority populations with limited language proficiency. The Office on Aging works in collaboration with community-based providers to help coordinate necessary services and referrals.

What We Do:

The Hudson County Division on Aging Services exists to serve as the primary advocate, planning and coordinating agency for Hudson County seniors and their caregivers. Using Older Americans Act (OAA) funds together with other government support, the Hudson County Office on Aging provides vulnerable senior populations with critical social, health, and economic programs and services to improve their overall quality of life. The main objective of the Office on Aging is to assist Hudson County’s underserved aging population in obtaining the necessary programs and services to maintain their independence and dignity in non-institutionalized settings.

The Office on Aging also promotes healthy living for Hudson County seniors by operating as a central point for seniors to obtain health promotion information regarding diabetes, long-term health care, maintaining independence, disease and injury prevention, and how to utilize existing resources in more cost-effective ways to improve their quality of life. The Office on Aging, in collaboration with municipal senior affairs offices, sponsors other services that include recreational activities, an annual senior luncheon, summer cruises and a senior art show.

As part of the ADRC, and in collaboration with the Office of Disability Services, the Office on Aging connects seniors with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). The SHIP Program provides assistance from state-trained volunteer counselors to Medicare beneficiaries who have problems or questions regarding their health insurance.
