WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD

The Hudson County/Jersey City Workforce Development Board (HCJCWDB) is one of 17 WDBs in New Jersey and one of 550+ WDBs in the country. The WDB is mandated by federal law to be the lead organization in Hudson County and Jersey City for workforce planning, to cooperate with State officials in providing businesses with locally-validated labor market information, and to arrange for a service delivery system that meets the workforce needs of businesses and job-seekers. WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT (WIOA)

The “Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act” or “WIOA” (which supersedes WIA), provides federal funds to states to help job seekers, workers and businesses with career services, job training and education (as of July 1, 2015). Career services include unemployment and job search assistance, information on the job market, job readiness, career planning and counseling, program for non-English speakers, financial aid, supportive services, and financial literacy.

WORKFIRST NEW JERSEY (WFNJ)

Workfirst New Jersey (WFNJ), unless a person is deferred because of clinical health issues persons receiving public assistance are required to engage in a work activity to maintain benefit eligibility.

The goal of WFNJ is to assist people get from public assistance and become self sufficient through job training, education, and work activities.

STATE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR ON THE JOB TRAINING EMPLOYER BENEFITS

Businesses and clients seeking employment may engage the One Stop and County Workfirst New Jersey about On the Job Training (OJT) programming. OJT program encourages employers to hire new workers by assisting them with the costs of training. You get a paid job, training, and an opportunity to learn a new skill, while the employer receives reimbursement for part of your salary.

To participate in the Employer Partnership program:

  • You must be a New Jersey resident who is unemployed or facing an imminent layoff from your current employer.
  • You must either be currently receiving unemployment benefits OR must have exhausted your benefits within the past 52 weeks OR must meet the criteria to be regarded as a dislocated worker.
  • You must be paid at least $12.00 an hour.
  • Jobs must be full-time (at least 32 hours per week), long-term employment.
  • Depending on the complexity of skills to be learned, the OJT contract period will range from 4 to 26 weeks.
