The Hudson County Clerk is an elected office with a five-year term. Hudson County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado was re-elected as Hudson County Clerk in November of 2022. He was sworn into office in January of 2023 and his term will continue through December 31, 2027. The Hudson County Clerk’s Offices manages a variety of functions for the County of Hudson, including public records/archives, business registrations, notary services and conducts wedding ceremonies. In terms of elections, the Hudson County Clerk is responsible for: receiving election night returns, tallying all votes cast on voting machines, conducting ballot drawings and designing ballots. The HC Clerk receives and issues Vote-By-Mail applications and ballots for all elections. The Clerk’s Office also maintains live election results & certifies same, in concert with the Board of Elections.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Certification of school board, primary, and general elections.
- Maintains live election results and certifies same. A link to live Election results may be found on www.hudsoncountyclerk.org website.
- Candidates wishing to file petitions to run for public office in Hudson County, do so by filing these petitions with the HC Clerk. (Unless it is a municipal, state or federal election – in which cases, one would file with their City Clerk or State Division of Elections, respectively). Please visit www.hudsoncountyclerk.org under “Elections” tab to find petitions.
- Issuing Vote-By-Mail ballots, upon request.
- Conducts, announces & broadcasts live ballot drawings.
- Layout, Design & Printing of election ballot materials
- Recipient of all election night returns – tally sheets and electronic cartridges.
- Tally all votes cast on voting machines on early voting and election days.
