Office of Specialized Health Services
The Office of Specialized Health Services strives to achieve a holistic approach to improve the quality of Health Care for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Hudson County through medical care and essential support services designed to decrease HIV infections and ensure a comprehensive Continuum of HIV Health Care.
The mission of the Hudson County Office of Specialized Health Services is to improve the health outcomes of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Hudson County, N.J., and to reduce the transmission of HIV by 75% in our local communities by 2025.
Who we are:
The Office of Specialized Health Services administers Ryan White funds on behalf of the Hudson County Department of Health and Human Services. Hudson County has been the recipient of Ryan White dollars since the inception of the Ryan White Cares Act in 1990. As the Ryan White contract administrator, we ensure that services are provided to targeted consumer populations, in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local requirements, and as outlined in the County’s Ryan White Comprehensive Health Plan.
What we do:
The Hudson County Office of Specialized Health Services contracts directly with community-based organizations throughout the County, which are skilled in providing the types of services needed by persons living with HIV, using Ryan White Part A and Minority AIDS Initiative (MAI) funds. In addition to providing oversight of RW Part A and MAI funds, the office oversees other Ryan White competitive funds including Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) funds that are designed to improve HIV-related health outcomes and prevent new transmissions by identifying people who are HIV newly diagnosed and out of care, HIV diagnosed but never in HIV care and those who are not virally suppressed. As part of the Hudson County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Office of Specialized Health Services works closely with the County’s HIV/AIDS Health Services Planning Council (PC), which meets monthly and makes formal and ongoing recommendations to the Director of DHHS regarding annual Ryan White service priorities and funding allocations based on our federal funding awards from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
