JERSEY CITY, NJ On Saturday, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, hosted a successful 3rd Annual Strides for Safety 5K Against Gun Violence held in Lincoln Park on Saturday. The Strides for Safety 5K is an opportunity for the Hudson County community to run or walk and raise awareness to end gun violence in the county and country. This year’s race also marked the debut of a new USA Track & Field-certified course. This year, the Strides for Safety 5K Against Gun Violence had 435 registered attendees and 30 volunteers.

“It was incredible to see so many Hudson County residents, families, and nonprofit organizations join together to raise awareness and end gun violence in our community. We all know how important it is to keep our families and neighbors safe, and community events like these remind us of the positivity and support that exists in Hudson County, said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “I’m thankful for the people and organizations that participated on Saturday – each year that we come together strengthens our existing coalition of parents, young people, religious leaders, committed advocates, and law enforcement that are all committed to building a County where everyone can thrive – free from the fear of gun violence.”

This year, the County debuted a new USA Track & Field-certified 5K course that showcases Lincoln Park in Jersey City. This certification produces courses that accurately measure distance and can be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked. Following the race, runners and walkers, as well as their families, were invited to the awards ceremony with food and refreshments as well as musical entertainment, family activities, and local safety community organizations. Health-focused vendors provided residents with yoga classes, smoothies, and massages.
