JERSEY CITY, NJ County Executive Craig Guy, the Board of County Commissioners, including Chairman Anthony Romano, and Hudson County Undersheriff Francine Shelton celebrated Pakistan Independence Day with a flag raising ceremony at the Hudson County Plaza, located at 257 Cornelison Avenue in Jersey City.

“As we gather here today to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day, Hudson County is proud to acknowledge the victory of the Pakistani people in 1947 that secured the nation’s independence,” said Craig Guy, Hudson County Executive. “And just as we are doing today at the Hudson County Plaza, communities across New Jersey, the U.S., and Pakistan gather together to celebrate this national holiday with flag raisings as well as ceremonies, parades, and festivals. I’m proud to hoist this flag for the Pakistan communities in Hudson County, and I sincerely thank you for your crucial contributions to our County.”

Pakistan Independence Day is celebrated on August 14th each year, the birthday of the independent and sovereign state of Pakistan. For the people of Pakistan, this day marks the fulfillment of a long fight for an independent Muslim nation. Pakistan was now free from British rule and could reorganize itself to best serve its people and secure the nation’s success.

Hussain Choudhri, a beloved and involved member of the Pakistani community in Hudson County who is always willing to help us celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day, was honored with a citation by the County.
