Guy spoke to Hoboken and Jersey City municipal officials to bring emergency assistance after this morning’s water main break.
Jersey City, NJ — Following this morning’s water main break impacting residents in Hoboken and Jersey City, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy met with several Hoboken municipal officials to hear their concerns and provide clean, potable drinking water to the people of Jersey City and the Mile Square City.
This water main break led to a boil water advisory for residents in Hoboken. After meeting with Hoboken officials, including Hoboken Housing Authority Chairperson Barbara Reyes, Hudson County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Anthony Romano (District Five), Hoboken Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher (Second Ward), and Hoboken Councilwoman Emily Jabbour (At-Large), County Executive Guy sent five “water tenders” – 3,300 gallon tanks that provide safe drinking water – to both Jersey City and Hoboken. Hudson County Mutual Aid coordinators are working with officials in Jersey City and Hoboken to strategically place the water tenders where they will be helpful to residents.
“Working together with the affected municipalities, Hudson County immediately jumped into action to help bring clean drinking water to our residents,” said County Executive Craig Guy. “I’d like to particularly thank Hoboken Housing Authority Chairperson Barbara Reyes for her quick response and efforts to resolve this serious issue. When communication channels remain open between county and municipal officials, we can get things done.”
In addition to the water tenders, Guy, Romano, Fisher, and Jabbour delivered a truckload of bottled water to Hoboken residents, including those living at the Hoboken Community Center and Marian Towers. Hudson County will also deploy crews to Jersey City to assist in any overnight water main repair.
“It’s so important to know that when issues like these occur, Hudson County is there for Hoboken,” said Board of County Commissioners Chairman Anthony Romano. “County Executive Guy was quick to provide resources for our community and I was proud to work hand-in-hand with him to deliver water to our residents.”
“In moments like this, it’s reassuring to know we can count on Hudson County for support. As soon as he heard about the water main break, Craig Guy reached out, and we were able to quickly get water to our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Hoboken Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher (2nd Ward).
“Thank you to Hudson County for jumping in to offer support today to assist Hoboken as we respond to the water service interruption earlier, and now the boil water advisory that’s in place. During times of crisis, all levels of government should work together to assist residents, especially our most vulnerable. Thank you to County Executive Craig Guy and Commissioner Romano for providing bottled water to support the City’s ongoing outreach as led by the City Office of Emergency Management – we are working together to best support Hoboken,” said Hoboken Councilwoman Emily Jabbour (At-Large).
