JERSEY CITY, NJ — On June 3, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy and the Board of County Commissioners celebrated Pride Month with a flag raising of the Progress Pride flag for National Pride Month at the Brennan Court House. The Progress Pride flag, designed by Daniel Quasar, is a more inclusive version of the traditional rainbow flag.
County Executive Guy was joined by Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners Anthony L. Romano (District 5); Elizabeth Schedl, Executive Director of the Hudson PRIDE Center; Michele Dupey, Chairperson of the Hudson County LGBTQ+ Advisory Task Force; and LGBTQ+ Advisory Task Force member Beth Achenbach.
“Pride Month is celebrated across the nation by millions of Americans each year, and here in Hudson County we make it a point to express our support and acceptance of every resident. We’re proud to raise this Progress Pride flag in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community as a symbol of hope and resilience to all residents, especially our youth,” said Hudson County Executive Guy. “Regardless of what may come out of Washington and the current Administration, Hudson County will continue to strive to create a more inclusive community that uplifts and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in every way possible. Hudson County’s doors are always open for you.”
“Year after year, the Hudson Pride Center is always proud to join County Executive Craig Guy and his administration during Hudson County’s Annual Pride Month Flag Raising. County Executive Guy and his administration have not only been supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, but they have also been advocates and have dedicatedly crafted an LGBTQ+ Advisory Task Force to address issues important to the LGBTQ+ community within Hudson County,” said Elizabeth Schedl, Executive Director of Hudson Pride Center in Jersey City. “Celebrations and organized efforts like this are critically important in the face of the current administration’s continuous attacks on the LGBTQ+ community. I’m glad to stand with County Executive Guy as we continue to make space, provide resources and support the growth and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community in Hudson County.”
Two youths from Hudson County participated in the Pride Month Flag Raising. Riley Gonzalez sang the National Anthem and Salem Pomiano read a poem. Citations were presented to the two performers, the Hudson PRIDE Center, and the Hudson County LGBTQ+ Advisory Task Force.
