About the Division of Engineering

The Division of Engineering is a Division of the Department of Roads and Public Property. The County Engineer is responsible for this Division and prepares all bid specifications for construction projects, provides construction management oversight on all capital projects, evaluates and monitors the conditions of County roads and bridges, conducts technical analyses, and recommends engineering solutions to complex problems. The County Engineer prepares and manages capital budgets on all projects and manages applications and compliance with State and Federal grants. The County Engineer also provides technical direction and support for all County transportation and facility projects, traffic signal installations, technical support services to the County Planning Board, and is responsible for administrative oversight of all federally funded wastewater projects. The Division is responsible for providing technical reviews and services affecting 61 miles of roadways, 330 signalized intersections, 736 acres in 9 County Parks, 30 bridges and viaducts, 3 Hudson/Essex joint bridges, 4 pedestrian bridges, the Correctional Center, USS Juneau Memorial Center, Meadowview Psychiatric Hospital, Public Safety Training Center, the Administration and Courthouse complex, Hudson County Plaza, Bergen Square Center and various other structures.

Engineering also serves as the secretary to the Hudson County Construction Board of Appeals.
