Hudson County Minority and Women-Owned, Disadvantaged, Small Business, Veteran, and Local Businesses earned almost $70 million in contracts for the project

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Today, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy and the Board of County Commissioners highlighted the efforts of Minority and Women-Owned, Disadvantaged, Small Business, Veteran, and Local Business Enterprises (XBE) in the construction of the Honorable Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex in Jersey City. SRL Enterprises LLC, a consultant on the project, released a report on the construction, noting that XBE subcontracts made up 32% of subcontracts awarded by the design builder for the construction of the Justice Complex, exceeding the goal of 30% XBE participation in its original plans.

“I’m very pleased with the results of this report as it emphasizes Hudson County’s commitment to providing every opportunity available to our minority-owned businesses – including those that are disadvantaged, women-owned, veteran-owned, and our small and local businesses. We recognize and appreciate the efforts of the Hudson County Improvement Authority in achieving this goal. Hudson County is one of the most diverse counties in the country and we are immensely proud to support our businesses that reflect this diversity. Still, we continue to expand and build upon the opportunities currently available to the hard-working business owners in Hudson County,” said Hudson County Executive Guy. “I truly believe that when all government officials partner together to achieve a positive goal, just as the Board of County Commissioners and I have in achieving this extraordinary final percentage, all residents have the chance to experience its great impact.”

In total:

1,425 Hudson County residents performed craft labor on the project, and 70% of those residents were minorities.

XBE businesses earned $101,494,505 in subcontracts for this project, surpassing the goal of $94,502,115.

Hudson County XBE businesses earned $60,748,288.

“As Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, I am immensely proud of the outstanding work done to ensure Hudson County’s minority-owned businesses were represented in the construction of the new courthouse complex. Providing opportunities for our businesses that are owned by women and people of color to grow and expand their reach is key to keeping their doors open, ensuring their assimilations in all projects going forward and that they find success in Hudson County,” said Chairman of the Board of Hudson County Commissioners, Anthony Romano.

During the course of this project, SRL assisted businesses in registering with Hudson County’s Office of Business Opportunity, helped those business seeking certification in one of the XBE programs, participated in local outreach and networking events to highlight the project, and educated interested business firms about the project’s goals and requirements. In addition, Terminal Construction Corporation sent letters to each of the Local Unions to reinforce the requirement to supply Minority, Women and Apprentice craft laborers to meet participation goals.
