JERSEY CITY, NJ —On April 10, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy joined Hudson County Schools of Technology (HCST) Acting Superintendent Dr. Joseph Sirangelo, HCST Business Administrator Nicholas Fargo, and HCST School Board President John Minella to celebrate the opening of a new Food Bus being run by County Prep High School students. The school turned a decommissioned school bus, through BradyPLUS, into a fully operational and professionally equipped mobile food service unit, offering high school students hands-on culinary and hospitality experience.

In 2024, officials launched the inaugural Outdoor Classroom Food Bus, allowing students to focus on aspects of the culinary arts, including safety and sanitation, kitchen operations, and business components like budgeting and resource allocation. About 20 students took part in last year’s program.

“I am proud of efforts of the Hudson County Schools of Technology in developing this initiative, which not only provides opportunities for our students but also ensures these students are career-ready,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “Last year, I sampled the delicious Food Bus items at many of our County events, and I’m looking forward to seeing (and tasting!) what the students cook up over the coming months.”

“The Food Buses represent the best of what we strive for at HCST—experiential learning that empowers our students to apply their skills in meaningful, real-world settings. Today’s showcase reflects not only their talent, but also the dedication of our educators and the strength of our career-focused curriculum,” said Acting Superintendent Dr. Joseph Sirangelo.

“The Food Buses are a testament to what can be achieved when education and innovation intersect with purpose. They provide students with real-world, hands-on experience while also showcasing the strength of our career and technical programs. I’m proud of the collaboration among our staff, students, and partners that made this possible,” said Business Administrator Nicholas Fargo.

“The second Food Bus grand opening and culinary showcase highlights the exceptional talent within our student body. Their dedication, skill, and professionalism reflect the high standards of the HCST culinary program. I also want to recognize the staff whose guidance and commitment make opportunities like this possible and ensure our students are prepared for real-world success,” said Board President John Minella.

The students will provide different cuisines throughout the program. For the ribbon-cutting event, the students prepared:

  • Shroom-Tastic Burger: A mouthwatering angus beef burger topped with melted cheese, a savory mushroom patty, and rich garlic aioli.
  • Cheese Me Up: Classic Philly cheesesteak with tender beef, sauteed peppers, onions, and melted cheese sauce.
  • Rhi-Licious Shrimp Tacos: Juicy shrimp topped with sweet mango salsa, crunchy coleslaw, tangy pickled onions, and a creamy cilantro sauce.
  • Flat And Fabolous: A classic Margherita pizza topped with fresh arugula and savory prosciutto.
  • Quack Attack Fries: Golden, crispy fries fried in rich duck fat.
  • Crisp-A-Chokes: Golden, crispy fried artichokes served with a zesty lemon garlic aioli.
