BAYONNE, NJ — Today, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners Anthony L. Romano, and Commissioner Jerry Walker (D-3) celebrated the groundbreaking of a brand-new pavilion at Mercer Park in Bayonne. The groundbreaking was also attended by Jersey City Councilwoman Denise Ridley (Ward A) and Hudson County Register Jeffrey Dublin. This exciting project will create an outdoor community space complete with room for concession stands and new bathrooms, enhancing the park’s ability to host events and provide residents with a welcoming space to gather.

“This pavilion is more than a structure; it’s a gathering place where families and neighbors can come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories. It reflects the shared commitment of my administration and the Board of County Commissioners to invest in our communities while expanding opportunities for minority-owned businesses,” said Craig Guy, Hudson County Executive. “I am especially proud that this project will be built by MDW Construction Service, a minority-owned contractor rooted right here in our community. This effort represents a meaningful investment in the neighborhood and a defining accomplishment for Commissioner Jerry Walker. I thank Commissioner Walker for his tireless advocacy and dedication to delivering a space that truly reflects and serves the residents of his district.”

“Parks are essential to the quality of life in Hudson County. By expanding Mercer Park with this pavilion, we are ensuring that all residents have a vibrant, accessible space to connect, play, and enjoy the outdoors,” said Chairman of the Hudson County Board of Commissioners, Anthony L. Romano.

“From the start, I heard from so many residents in my district about the need for a community space in Mercer Park. I advocated for this project because I know how important safe, welcoming spaces are for our families and seniors alike. This pavilion is a direct result of listening to constituents, pushing for resources, and making sure every voice in our community is heard,” said Commissioner Jerry Walker (D-3).

The new pavilion at Mercer Park will be a major step forward in Hudson County’s commitment to improving public spaces and providing a vibrant community hub for generations to come.

Mercer Park is a county park, a hidden gem of public space in Bayonne located along the border of Jersey City. The park spans six-and-a-half acres of walkways winding through greenery and shady resting areas among massive trees. The park also features two basketball courts, a lighted dual-use field for youth baseball and football, and a children’s playground, making it a hub for recreation and community activities.
