Office of Professional Standards
The Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Office of Professional Standards oversees both the Internal Affairs Unit and the Applicant Investigations Unit. While these units have distinct responsibilities, they are guided by the same principles of professionalism, accountability, and integrity.
The Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation- Internal Affairs (IA) Unit operates in accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Guidelines on Internal Affairs Policies and Procedures.
The Internal Affairs Unit must accept and document all citizen complaints in any form, including anonymous complaints, against law enforcement personnel employed at the facility.
The Internal Affairs Unit is responsible for investigating complaints of serious rule infractions, criminal allegations, firearms discharges, vehicle pursuits, and monitoring drug testing.
Applicant Investigation Unit (AIU) conducts background investigations on applicants for the position of County Corrections Police Officer. The background check includes a review of employment history, driving record, criminal history (including juvenile and expungements), and domestic violence history.
